Bill Maher gays it up (even more than usual) on HBO’s ‘Real Time’ this Friday

It’s no secret I think Bill Maher is a dangerous (in a good way) comedian, and love that he says what a lot of people feel uncomfortable giving words to (like on particular word he called Sarah Palin at the Winspear earlier this year). He’s proven over and over what a great gay ally he is, and he does so again this week with a roundtable lineup that includes openly gay newsfolk Rachel Maddow and Andrew Sullivan. Sullivan, of course, is famously conservative, but he’s also intellectual honest and very pro-gay. Should be a good discussion.

The new episode airs live on Friday at 9 p.m. on HBO, with replays all week (including one at 10 p.m.).

Another Signal For Palin 2012

Sarah Palin has hired longtime Republican strategist Michael Glassner as chief of staff for SarahPAC. Politicos say this is the strongest signal yet that Mama Grizzly plans to run for president. After all, why else would an unemployed former reality show star need someone like Glassner?

Michael Glassner, who first worked with Ms. Palin during her 2008 vice presidential campaign, will become the top political adviser to Ms. Palin and will coordinate her political activities through her political action committee, SarahPAC. “We are very grateful that he is bringing his expertise to our enterprise,” Tim Crawford, the treasurer of SarahPAC, said in an interview on Saturday. He confirmed that Ms. Palin has hired Mr. Glassner, which was first reported Friday evening by CNN.

Sarah Palin Appears On Fox News To Respond To “Political Finger-Pointing”

Sarah Palin on Sean Hannity tonight: “In a situation like we have just faced in these last eight days of being falsely accused of being an accessory to murder, I and others need make sure that we too are shedding light on truth so a lie cannot continue to live. If a lie does live, then of course your career is over and your reputation is thrashed and you will be ineffective in what we intend to do.”

Sarah Palin to Give First Post-Shooting Interview to Sean Hannity, Will Speak at Gun Club Convention

Palin

Sarah Palin know where she's safe:

"An executive at Fox News Channel said that Ms. Palin would appear on the program of the conservative host Sean Hannity, and that the interview was scheduled to run through several commercial breaks. The announcement came on Thursday, another day when Ms. Palin was figuring prominently in the discussion surrounding the Tucson shooting rampage, for her video statement about the shootings that she released Wednesday morning to stinging reviews from liberals and even some Republicans.

Ms. Palin is a paid Fox contributor, but she has been laying low on the network in the wake of the shooting. Her agreement to sit for an interview comes as even some Republicans have urged her to put herself out there for questions amid the criticism she is facing."

And she'll also speak in front of a gun club later this month.

The poster up top is one that has popped up in San Francisco, by street artist Eddie Colla.

Sarah Palin supportive of DADT repeal?

I really hate writing about Sarah Palin and her tweets, but she might have made some pro-gay news yesterday. Seriously.

Yesterday, at the Republican National Committee Chair debate, Igor Volsky reported that all of the candidates espoused their anti-gay views.

But, last night, Palin, may have intimated support for gay rights, specifically the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Since Palin is involved and the whole thing played out on twitter, it’s a bit unclear. Palin retweeted a pro-gay tweet from conservative lesbian Tammy Bruce:

But this hypocrisy is just truly too much. Enuf already–the more someone complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed

Gawker was the first to report the news and ponders why:

Why?
* She is coming out in support of DADT repeal and gay rights. Bruce thinks that Palin is expressing her point of view on “DADT, treatment of gays & attempts to marginalize us.” Which isn’t out of the question—Palin is not, in the context of her party, rabidly homophobic, and her stance on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was limited to a sort of feeble “not right now” back in February. So, yes, maybe reality ungulate-shooter Sarah Palin is expressing her solidarity with gay soldier-types via microblogging. What a blow for the forces of freedom and openness!
* She didn’t understand the Tweet. It’s not the most professional way to come out, so to speak, in support of DADT repeal, is it? (Though, Jesus, why am I looking for professionalism from this woman of all people? I mean—she would come out for gay rights in a way that would piss off a lot of gay people, wouldn’t she?) It’s possible she—whoever is in charge of the Official Palin Twitter—just, well, didn’t get the joke, or didn’t understand the Tweet at all.
* She clicked the wrong button. Maybe! Though the re-Tweet’s been up an awful long time.
* She thinks we should be looking for gay people hiding under beds.

Any of the above could be valid. Tammy Bruce also tweeted this last night:

So, @SarahPalinUSA RT’s something that stands w gays re DADT and is supportive in general, what r the odds the LSM will try to ignore?

I don’t think we’re cool enough to be lamestream media, but we’re not ignoring it. Just wondering if it’s true.

Quote Of The Day – Bristol Palin

“You say you ‘don’t agree with the family’s politics at all’ but I say, if you understood that commonsense conservative values support the right of individuals like you, like all of us, to live our lives with less government interference and more independence, you would embrace us faster than k.d. lang at an Indigo Girls concert.” – Bristol Palin, in a not so thinly-veiled lesbian slam at Margaret Cho, who last week said that Bristol was forced into Dancing With The Stars to further her mother’s political ambitions.
