Latest papal bigot eruption: “same-sex ‘marriage’ perverts essence and goal of family”

Yawn. It’s not only offensive, at this point it’s just tiring to hear this gasbag find different ways to say the same damn thing — that LGBTs are defective, perverted and otherwise destroying society.

This is from EWTN News:

As efforts to legalize same-sex “marriage” proceed in the United States and countries around the world, Pope Benedict issued strong remarks on Jan. 14, saying that gay “marriage” perverts the “essence and goal of the family.”

Addressing officials from the city of Rome and the Italian region of Lazio, Pope Benedict said that legislation and policies that promote same-sex unions end up “penalizing” heterosexual couples, “who, not without effort, seek to maintain stable emotional ties which are juridically guaranteed and publicly recognized.”

“To this end,” he stressed, “the various components of society must agree on the objectives of education, in order for human love not to be reduced to an article of consumption, but to be seen and lived as a fundamental experience which gives existence meaning and a goal.”

FUN FACT: The conservative Catholic-bent EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) studio and HQ, ironically, is located not far from where Kate’s mom and dad used to live in Birmingham, AL. It was founded by Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, who suffered a stroke several years ago, but is alive and well in perpetual repeats on the channel of her “Mother Angelica Live” program. Here (2000) she advises a caller on how to avoid purgatory.

But what he really wants to do is direct: Matt Barber shares papal wishes

6A00D8341C503453Ef01310Faf3002970CDon’t think Matt Barber’s even a Catholic. But the Liberty University dean sure has strong ideas about the Vatican’s future:

“I would like personally to see the Catholic Church start taking even a firmer stance and literally start excommunicating people who reject fundamental, central, non-negotiable doctrines of both Christianity and Catholicism,”

“Really, [a lesbian teacher] has no business even calling herself a Catholic if she is engaging in behaviors and a sinful lifestyle that is completely counter-Christian, counter-biblical, and counter-Catholic,” the attorney argues.

Lesbian professor resigns, claims she was fired [ONN]

Pretty interesting comments coming from Matt, who is himself a divorced-and-remarried man (a major Catholic no no). If we were at the forefront of waging judgment against others’ supposedly sinful bonds, we’d probably stop and consider our own without-sinniness before casting such hard-lined stones!

People. People who need papal.

Launching September 14:

Catholics-For-EqualityDrawing on the rich tradition of Catholic social justice teachings, American Catholics are among the strongest supporters of equality for LGBT people of any religious group in the U.S..

Yet the official voice of the hierarchy is increasingly one favoring discrimination and opposing just, humane, and reasonable efforts to secure legal equality for LGBT Americans. Far too often, that anti-equality voice is portrayed as representing the values of American Catholics.

We believe this trend is a repudiation of Catholic teaching about the equal dignity of every person as well as the American and constitutional values of fairness and equality under the law.

Catholics for Equality was founded in 2010 to support, educate, and mobilize equality-supporting Catholics to advance LGBT equality at federal, state, and local levels.

We’re here to help pro-equality Catholics make a difference.

Catholics For Equality

A good idea, considering how many people have greatly overlooked the Catholic influence in anti-equality measures, focusing instead on the LDS. Bishop Cordileone, Bishop Malone, Bishop Nienstedt, etc. In every state where a civil right is matched up with a voting booth, a con$iderable Catholic $upport $ystem suddenly falls into place. We need to challenge that not only on marriage, but as it applies to the entire equality movement.

And unlike our opposition, our side has the fortitude to admit their faithful starting point. If the organization that even its own affiliated lawyers admits is “predominantly Catholic” would be so forthright about their own motivations, we’d all be better off.
