Updated Election Results, HISD III may be headed for recount (updated)

With 31.98% of Harris County precincts reporting, most races look much the same as they did at 7 pm when the Harris County Clerk published early voting totals.  The HISD district III race between Manuel Rodriguez and Ramiro Fonseca is turning into a nail bitter. With 58% of precincts reporting only 36 votes separate the two candidates. This race garnered national attention after Rodriquez mailed an anti-gay flier attacking Fonseca, and the Houston Chronicle subsequently pulled its endorsement of Rodriquez

UPDATED: with 94.74% of precincts reporting Rodriquez is now leading Fonseca by 3 votes.

Only candidates with more than 10% of the vote at current count are reflected.

Watch: FRC’s Tony Perkins Makes Laughable Claim That His Group is Neither Hateful Nor Anti-Gay

Frc

FOX & Friends offers a sympathetic ear to the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins, who wants the Southern Poverty Law Center to retract their designation of FRC as a hate group.

In fact, the reasons for the SPLC's designation are well-documented

Jeremy Hooper at Good as You also uncovered a document, as yet unreleased, which shows that FRC is developing a campaign with some of the other anti-gay groups which the SPLC labeled as hate groups, to try to spin the lie that they are the victims.

Watch Perkins spew lies on FOX & Friends, and read the document, AFTER THE JUMP

Watch: Hate Group Leader Tony Perkins Spews ‘DADT’ Nonsense on MSNBC

Msnbc_perkins

Hate group leader Tony Perkins (of the Family Research Council) and Sgt. Brian Fricke of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, appeared on MSNBC today to discuss 'DADT' repeal and the Pentagon report.

Perkins does his best to discredit the opinions of Mullen and Gates, and cites the FRC's own "scientific survey" (The survey of a designated hate group) that 30% of the Armed Forces are ready to leave if gays are allowed to serve openly.

Why are MSNBC and CNN

SPLC Vs. FRC’s Tony Perkins

Note that Liar Perkins quotes a made up statistic from the American College of Pediatricians which is a made up group. But points to Chris Matthews for giving SPLC the majority of the airtime.

Quote Of The Day – Tony Perkins

“The Southern Poverty Law Center is a massively funded liberal organization that operates under a veneer of public justice when, in fact, they seem more interested in fundraising ploys than fighting wrongdoing.

“This is a deliberately timed smear campaign by the SPLC. The Left is losing the debate over ideas and the direction of public policy so all that is left for them is character assassination. It’s a sad day in America when we can not, with integrity, have a legitimate discussion over policy issues that are being considered by Congress, legislatures, and the courts without resorting to juvenile tactics of name calling.

“The Left’s smear campaigns of conservatives is also being driven by the clear evidence that the American public is losing patience with their radical policy agenda as seen in the recent election and in the fact that every state, currently more than thirty, that has had the opportunity to defend the natural definition of marriage has done so. Earlier this month, voters in Iowa sent a powerful message when they removed three Supreme Court justices who imposed same-sex marriage on the state. Would the SPLC also smear the good people of Iowa?

“Family Research Council will continue to champion marriage and family as the foundation of our society and will not acquiesce to those seeking to silence the Judeo-Christian views held by millions of Americans. We call on the Southern Poverty Law Center to apologize for this slanderous attack and attempted character assassination.” – Family Research Council president Tony Perkins.

Notice how all these reactions are coming on Thanksgiving, when none of their followers will hear about it?

Watch: Dan Savage Tells CNN That It Must Stop Giving Platforms to Hate Group Leaders Like the FRC’s Tony Perkins

Dansavage

CNN ran a segment on bullying and hate crimes inspired by the SPLC's recent report and their designation of 13 new organizations as "hate" groups.

Dan Savage tells Kyra Phillips, who is incredulous over the numbers of violent crimes committed against gay people, that change must begin with organizations like CNN, which give platforms to leaders of hate groups like the Family Research Council, which masquerade as religious organizations.

Says Savage: "There are no ‘two sides’ to the issue of LGBT rights. Right now one side is really using dehumanizing rhetoric. The Southern Poverty Law Center labels these groups as hate groups and yet the leaders of these groups, people like Tony Perkins, are welcomed onto networks like CNN to espouse hate directed at gays and lesbians. And similarly hateful people who are targeting Jews or people of color or anyone else would not be welcome to spew their bile on CNN."

UPDATE: Savage says, "The question about what could be done to lower the rate of anti-gay hate crimes was the planned final question in the segment, CNN knew I was going to slam 'em when they asked it, and they had me on anyway. Which is to CNN's credit."

Tony Perkins’ Completely Reasonable Fear Repealing DADT Will Force Obama To Bring Back The Draft

Reasonable person Tony Perkins, whose Focus on the Family hatemongering has found a home at Tucker Carlon's The Daily Caller, raises reasonable fears: If we repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell and lose all those homophobic straight soldiers, Obama is going to have to bring back the draft! Lord.

PhoboQuotable – Tony Perkins

“You can almost smell the desperation of the pro-homosexual crowd as the clock ticks down on the 111th Congress. One sign of their anxiety over ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ seems to be cropping up in the form of one-sided leaks from the Pentagon on the content of a report due to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and President Obama on December 1. Another sign is a strange effort to discredit Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the former Vietnam POW who has led efforts this year to maintain the existing 1993 law (usually referred to as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”).

“Several media outlets have reported as fact that Sen. McCain once supported repeal of the law but has reversed himself. This is completely false. Where could they have gotten such an idea? Perhaps from Jim Manley, a spokesman for Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, who also said recently that Sen. McCain ‘previously expressed support for the repeal of this law.’ The truth is, while Sen. McCain has not always taken the same position as FRC on some issues, he has been entirely consistent on this one. These liberal activists should give up on their push to use the military to ram radical social change through the lame-duck Congress–and stop lying about an American hero while they’re at it.” – Family Research Council head Tony Perkins.

FACT CHECK: In the past McCain has said that he only supported keeping DADT because that’s what military leaders wanted.

My opinion is shaped by the view of the leaders of the military. The reason why I supported the policy to start with is because General Colin Powell, who was then the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is the one that strongly recommended we adopt this policy in the Clinton administration. I have not heard General Powell or any of the other military leaders reverse their position, just like when on other issues, that people are expert and knowledgeable of, I rely on their opinion.

But once military leaders said that they DID support the president’s call to repeal DADT, McCain decided that their opinion wasn’t so important after all. Once again, Tony Perkins makes the Baby Jeebus cry.

Crybaby Tony Perkins Demands Investigation Into Leaked DADT Survey

“We have criticized this study from the outset because the CRWG was forbidden to explore the central question before the country-not how to implement a repeal of the current law, but whether doing so is in the best interest of the armed forces. The surveys of servicemembers and their spouses which were conducted as part of this process shared the same flaw, since they never asked, ‘Do you believe the current law should be overturned?’

“Despite this critical flaw, Secretary Gates had at least pledged that the effort would be ‘carried out in a professional, thorough and dispassionate manner.’ That effort is gravely undermined by leaks to the media which are unprofessional, selective and blatantly biased. I urge Secretary Gates to have the DOD Inspector General launch an immediate investigation into the source of these leaks, which have seriously damaged the credibility of the CRWG process.” – Family Research Council douchebag crybaby Tony Perkins, saying it’s “laughable” that the leaking party wouldn’t have a pro-gay bias.
