Right, NOM: Paladino’s so ‘pro-marriage’, his love exceeded even his own nuptial bond

-He’s sent around a bevy of racist, sexist and pornographic emails.

-He had an extramarital affair that resulted in a daughter.

-He’s threatened to “take out” reporters who ask too man questions.

-He says he doesn’t want children “brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option–it isn’t.

-He’s accused opponent Andrew Cuomo of having an affair, with absolutely no evidence to support the deceit.

Or as the National Organization For Marriage describes New York’s Republican nominee for governor, Carl Paladino:

The NOM group says it supports “strong pro-family, pro-child” candidates, including Paladino, but also says it is not “under the control” of any particular candidate. [Buffalo News]

“Kids have enough to deal with already, without pushing gay marriage on them,” the narrator says. The New York version [of the NOM radio ad] urges listeners to vote for Paladino, who polls show is trailing Democrat Andrew Cuomo. [WaPo]

Yup, that’s correct: In NY’s gubernatorial matchup, NOM is seriously referring to Paladino as the “values” candidate. You know, because Carl opposes gays’ ring fingers, so therefore he’s a moral stalwart in need of unquestioned public support from social conservatives, one and all.

Stay myopic, “traditional marriage” warriors!

Going All Out for Pro-Marriage Equality Tim Kennedy in Western NY

The following is from HRC Field Fellow Errin E. Doyle:

The New York state Senate race for the 58th District is heating up and HRC endorsed candidate, Tim Kennedy, has a headquarters full of HRC volunteers helping to spread his pledge to change the way business is done in our capital.  Less than two weeks before Election Day, Tim’s grassroots efforts are being supported by volunteers from all over western New York.

My experience as an HRC Field Fellow is teaching me a tremendous amount about political campaigns and community organizing.  Assembling HRC and community members alike has been a chief focus of my work with the campaign.  I’ve been able to reach out through traditional methods like calls and emails, as well as blogging through blogging here at Back Story.

It just so happens that one of these blogs was read and well-received by Jacob Edmister, a western New Yorker who responded to our call to action by signing up to volunteer with Kennedy’s team.  Together, we canvassed Buffalo neighborhoods, convincing others to join the worthy cause.

We all continue to make phone calls to people in the district, ushering in volunteers and prospective votes.  To increase the numbers, large phone banks are being held at headquarters on a regular basis, including a great one last night.  All are welcome to join our push to elect Tim Kennedy for New York’s 58th Senate District.

If you’re in the Buffalo area and interested in meeting other HRC members and volunteering on a strong, pro-equality campaign, please contact Regional Field Organizer David Contreras Turley at 202.330.3790 for more information.

NOM To Launch Iowa Bus Tour Against Pro-Marriage Supreme Court Justices

Next Monday NOM launches their third bus tour, this time in Iowa to support the Christianist campaign to defeat the state’s Supreme Court justices.

In one sweeping decision unelected judges decided that it is all right to purposefully deny a child a mother and a father and that millennia of tradition and the views of a large majority of Iowans, that marriage is and always should be between one man and one woman, is irrelevant. This is not their role. The Legislature makes the law. The Governor executes the law. And, only “we the people” can amend our constitution. If the Iowa Supreme Court will do this to marriage, every one of our freedoms, including gun rights and private property, is in danger of being usurped by activist judges who are unelected officials. Most Americans believe that government is out of control. Now is the time to take a stand against the radical judicial activism of the Iowa Supreme Court.

Hopping on board the NOM Hate Bus will be Family Research Council execudouche Tony Perkins, former Sen. Rick “Spreading” Santorum, and local asshat Rep. Steve King. The bus is scheduled to make 20 stops over four days. Hopefully the Courage Campaign will be trailing them again to document the bigotry.

Joe. My. God.

HRC Members in Buffalo Fight Hard for Pro-Marriage Candidates in State Senate Race

Tim Kennedy’s campaign for New York state Senate is heating up with polls now showing Tim in a statistical dead heat with Republican nominee and marriage foe Jack Quinn III. HRC is making sure our members know about this key race. I’ve been working here on the ground helping to turn out our members for volunteer canvasses and phone banks here in western New York.

HRC member and volunteer all-star, Damian Tremblay, hits the phones at least 4 times a week talking to members and voters in the Buffalo area about Tim and the issues that are important to Western New Yorkers. If elected, Kennedy pledges to represent the best interests of all New York families and will represent one of the 6 votes necessary to finally pass marriage equality in the state of New York.

Tim is challenging Incumbent Assemblyman Jack Quinn III who is actively campaigning against Tim because of his stance on marriage equality. But Tim isn’t backing down.

After a long night of voter contact, Damian took me and two other HRC volunteers to the Buffalo favorite recently visited by Barack Obama himself — Duff’s Famous Wings. With the help of volunteers like Damian and others, we can achieve full marriage rights and full stomachs!

Are you in the Buffalo area? Are you interested in volunteering for a fantastic, pro-equality candidate? Call Regional Field Organizer David Contreras Turley at 202 330 3790 for more information.
