News 8 Daybreak to be at Food Pantry

Ron Corning

News 8 Daybreak will be at the Resource Center Dallas Food Pantry on Denton Drive Cutoff at 6:30 a.m. on Friday.

Gandolfo’s will cater a limited number of breakfasts for a limited number of early-morning risers who get to the Pantry in time for the broadcast. Rafael McDonnell said he would be there greeting people although barely awake.

On air to host Ron Corning, who’s gay, will be on hand talking to RCD CEO and Executive Director Cece Cox and Food Pantry staff. Corning co-hosts Daybreak with Cynthia Izaguirre.

McDonnell invited the community to join him whether they’re on their way to work, in the neighborhood or just going home from the bars.

Del Shores to appear on News 8 Daybreak

I was just reminded that Del Shores will be hyping his upcoming Sordid Confessions show early in the morning. His publicist emailed to say that Shores is gonna be talking with News 8 Daybreak host Ron Corning at 6:40 a.m. Thursday morning. Whew! That’s a whole lotta early. I’m thankful he let me chat him up in the afternoon.

I do hope Corning will comment on the somewhat racy ad Shores has been using. What’s a better way for waking up with that on morning TV?

RCD reveals 5 Factor honorees

Next Thursday marks the third time the Resource Center Dallas has held The 5 Factor, which honors members of the community who have done a lot in the community. This year’s celebrants include a Dallas Voice contributor.

Journalist Jenny Block, whose most recent article for us was published just last week, is recognized in the “journalism” category. Ron Corning, the new host of Channel 8’s Daybreak show, is the media recipient. Pastry chef Brownen Weber, whom I wrote about last week, is recognized in “culinary.” Fashion designer Prashi Shah was cited for “fashion” and restaurateur Monica Greene, pictured, as the “icon.”

The honorees will be at a gala held at the 1500 Dragon St. on Oct. 20. Tickets are $50.
