Hip-Hop Producer Russell Simmons Wants You to Stand Up for Marriage Equality

Today the Human Rights Campaign launched another video for the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign with the addition of rap mogul and straight ally Russell Simmons. The new video and our entire campaign can be viewed online at www.hrc.org/NY4marriage. Simmons, the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings and creator of the Phat Farm clothing line, joins other prominent New Yorkers, from leaders and advocates, to actors and musicians who are letting America know that New York supports marriage equality.

We also announced today that these NY4Marriage videos will appear on Taxi TV, which will feature the videos in taxicabs throughout New York City.   Through this promotion, the videos will reach an estimated 1.5 million New Yorkers. Until now, the videos were only available online.

The newest video is a call to action for fellow New Yorkers.  “Make your voice heard,” said Simmons. “Stand up now for marriage equality!”

With this installment, Simmons joins a growing list of prominent New Yorkers that are declaring their support for marriage equality, including: Barbara Bush, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Mayor Bloomberg, Mark and Sunrise Ruffalo, Whoopi Goldberg, Joan Rivers, John Slattery, Fran Drescher, Moby, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Julianne Moore, designer Kenneth Cole and Broadway star Daphne Rubin-Vega to support marriage equality in the state. HRC plans to continue joining with prominent New Yorkers speaking out in support for marriage equality. Many more voices are to come in the days ahead, including: David Chang, Tom Colicchio, Ethan and Ryan Hawke and Christopher Meloni.

A January 2011 Siena Research Institute Poll found 57% of New Yorkers support marriage equality. In another poll recently released by Quinnipiac University, New Yorkers support marriage equality by the highest margin ever in that poll (56% to 37% opposed).

NH preps for House marriage hearing; we want public to hear what, exactly, leading state group wants to repeal (*Hint: It’s more than marriage)

In anticipation of Thursday’s marriage equality hearing before the New Hampshire House Judiciary Committee, the National Organization For Marriage is asking readers to email that body’s members, House Speaker Bill O’Brien, and House Majority Leader DJ Bettencourt:

Urgent Alert: Marriage Hearing in Concord this Thursday!!! [NOM]

And for once, we totally agree with NOM. Because we think fair-minded New Hampshirites and all concerned neighbors should also email all of those same people and ask why the state’s most prominent anti-equality/pro-repeal group, the NOM-aligned Cornerstone Action (sure to be represented at Thursday’s hearing), is encouraging scientifically discredited ‘ex-gay” therapy on its website:

Why is New Hampshire’s Cornerstone Policy pushing ‘ex-gay’ myths? [YouTube]

And unlike NOM, we won’t make you use a form email message. Because we trust your independent brain to say the right thing. Email addresses below:

Army Wants $2500 Back from Dan Choi Because He Was Discharged for Being Gay

Image001 Image002

He's not paying it.

An open letter to Obama from Lt. Dan Choi, via email and Twitter:

Dear Mr. President:

Today I received a ,500 bill from your Defense Department Finance and Debt Services. Specifically, you claim payment for "the unearned portion" of my Army contract. Six months after my discharge under the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy I have tried to move forward with my life, and I was inspired by your clarion calls for our progress as one nation towards a more just society. I have served my country in combat and I have tried to live my life by the values I learned at West Point in continued service to our nation.  To move forward in my own life I have finally sought treatment for Combat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), Insomnia, and Depressive Disorder from the Veterans Affairs Department. But I still find myself on a domestic battlefield for basic dignity as an American citizen. I know I am not alone in this fight because of the desperate cries for help I get from discharged, unemployed, discriminated, and suicidal veterans. I have felt all of their same pains personally. Today I also witness the disgrace of a country that perpetually discovers methods to punish its own citizens for taking a moral stand.

By flagrantly and repeatedly violating an immoral law, I have flagrantly and repeatedly saluted the honor of America's promise. At West Point, when we recited the Cadet Prayer we reminded ourselves "always to choose the harder right over the easier wrong." It would be easy to pay the 00 bill and be swiftly done with this diseased chapter of my life, where I sinfully deceived and tolerated self-hatred under Don't Ask Don't Tell.  Many thousands have wrestled with their responsibilities and expedient solutions when confronted with issues of this magnitude. I understand you also wrestle with issues of our equality. But I choose to cease wrestling, to cease the excuses, to cease the philosophical grandstanding and ethical gymnastics of political expediency in the face of moral duty. My obligations to take a stand, knowing all the continued consequences of my violations, are clear.

I refuse to pay your claim.

Respectfully,

Dan Choi

Former Army First Lieutenant

West Point Class of 2003

The Department Of Justice Wants To Know How Often You’re Manhunting

Big Brother isn't the only one who wants to spy on gays and other otherwise private citizens. Big Brother does too. In a new proposal that would require Internet service providers (ISPs) to track and retain usage information about their customers — from what websites they visit to their assigned IP addresses — the Justice Department claims law enforcement efforts are "stymied by a lack of data retention" and the problem is getting "worse." Which means they want your telecommunications providers not only to keep track of where you're going on the web, but maintain a log of those records should the FBI need them in the years to come. Is this an invasion of privacy on a monumental scale? You bet it is. Such requirements, while raising plenty of First Amendment flags, would mean your Manhunt, Compatible Partners, DaddyHunt, and TransPassions visits are tied to your online profile for…ever? You know, because the federal government is so good at keeping its own confidential communications, uh, confidential.

UTAH: GOP State Sen. Chris Buttars Wants To Repeal Anti-Bullying Rules

Republican state Sen. Chris Buttars has introduced a bill that would repeal the Salt Lake City school board’s recently instituted anti-bullying rules. Pride In Utah reports:

Speaking at a meeting for the anti-gay group Eagle Forum, Buttars said: “We’re in big trouble in our public education system. I didn’t realize how much until a month ago when I was asked to chair public education appropriations,” said Buttars. “We met and when we got done we were all so terrified we couldn’t believe it. This was right under our nose.” “By accepting that, there’s no God because he deals in absolutes,” said Buttars. “This is an entire program to bring America down and I want to tell you right now it’s well entrenched in Utah.” Other speakers at the Eagle Forum called the anti-bullying and non discrimination policies a “Socialist and Communist plot to take over children.”

Pride In Utah will stage a protest rally at the Utah Capitol Building on January 24th, the first day of the legislative session.

RELATED: We’ve heard from Buttars before. He has called the “sexual perversion” of homosexuality “the greatest threat to America I know of.” Buttars also wants to eliminate the 12th grade because kids know everything they need by then. And in 2008 when referring a bill that would increase funding to minority school districts, he said, “This baby is black. It’s a dark, ugly thing.”

Tim Pawlenty Wants Troops Back in the Closet

The Human Rights Campaign today rebuked comments made by presidential aspirant Tim Pawlenty that he would reinstate “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” if elected president. It is unclear, based upon an interview he granted to the American Family Association, whether Pawlenty understands the potentially dangerous ramifications of his comments. The AFA, which has been listed as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, equated homosexuality with murder in a recent fundraising appeal.

Given the fact that the integration of gays and lesbians into our fighting forces will take place soon, Pawlenty’s proposed reversal would undoubtedly cause unnecessary chaos by giving conflicting orders to our service members. Pawlenty did not explain what he thinks should happen to gay and lesbian troops, including those that are expected to re-enlist or come out as gay or lesbian once the change has been certified. He also did not offer any thoughts on the large financial costs of dealing with his misguided initiative or the deleterious impacts it would have on force morale.

“Either Tim Pawlenty doesn’t understand the importance of his words or worse, he really wants to harm our military. I don’t know which is worse,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “Either way, he’s clearly proven that he’s not ready to lead our fighting men and women as Commander-in-Chief. He needs to think twice next time before making irresponsible comments like these.”

Every study on the integration of gays and lesbians into military forces around the world has included two consistent themes: it should be done quickly and with the support of the military leadership. It comes as no surprise then that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Joints Chiefs Chairman Admiral Michael Mullen are moving quickly to implement repeal and that all of the military chiefs, no matter their personal positions on the issue, are now behind its successful implementation. Even Senator John McCain, the leading opponent of DADT repeal, recently said that he would do whatever was necessary to make sure the new policy of open service succeeded.

“Pawlenty’s remarks were irresponsible and dangerous. As someone that aspires to be Commander-in-Chief, he should be held to a higher standard. Now that repeal is being implemented, all of our leaders, no matter their personal opinions, should be doing everything they can to ensure successful implementation of repeal. It’s about the success of our military, not politics.”

NH’s Smith misplaces ‘protect marriage’ playbook, admits he wants civil unions gone too

When the effort to repeal marriage equality in New Hampshire starts heating up, you’re going to hear all kinds of people saying that the rollback is all about the institution of marriage — nothing more, nothing less. DON’T. BUY. THAT. LIE. FOR. EVEN. A. SECOND. Because here’s the state’s “pro-family” leader, Kevin Smith of Cornerstone Policy Research (a major NOM ally), full-out admitting his desire to not only roll back same-sex marriages, but also the basic protections that come with the prior civil unions compromise:

Ultimately what we’d like to see is it revert back to what it was prior to civil unions,

and that you just had a marriage statute and not to mess with that in any way”

Hey Kevin: Point to even one mess — EVEN. ONE. MESS. — that the inclusive marriage system (much less the prior civil unions system) has brought to the Live Free or Die State. You won’t. Because you can’t.

But you keep on admitting that it’s the basic rights and protection you’re really gunning. Our public opinion polls stiffen up just listening to it.

Anti-gay VA official Eugene Delgaudio wants your contribution to his winger org NOW.

Oh the humanity! As non-profit and charitable orgs ask you for donations in the waning hours of 2010, look at who is begging for dollars to fund the anti-gay agenda — none other than  Eugene Delgaudio, the batsh*t member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in Virginia, who moonlights running Public Advocate of the United States. See the inspiring patriotic logo below.

This is the elected official who made the Blend for his incredible statement a few weeks back about the latest pat-down procedures by the Transportation Security Agency, saying it will be an all-out grope-fest for horny homosexual TSA wage slaves – “the next TSA official that gives you an 'enhanced pat down' could be a practicing homosexual secretly getting pleasure from your submission.”

He also sent out an e-blast saying “You see, Homosexuals do not reproduce. They must recruit our children into their filthy perversion to increase their numbers.”

So you can imagine how motivated you would be to open your wallet for Eugene on New Year's Eve as you read this e-blast…

Dear Friend,

Just weeks remain before Public Advocate reaches a critical deadline — before every radical homosexual activist holds a copy of Public Advocate’s financial records in his conniving hands.

December 31st is the deadline for contributions to appear on the IRS 990, the public report that discloses how much money Public Advocate raised and spent in 2010.

But right now, our figures are falling short of my 2010 objectives.

If I’m to meet budget expectations this year, I must raise 2,595 with all checks postmarked before December 31st.

If I fail to raise 2,595 by December 31st, I’ll be forced to broadcast our weakness and vulnerability to the Homosexual Lobby.

After the brutal fights this year on the Gay Bill of Special Rights, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the Homosexual Classrooms Act, the Homosexual Lobby must not find Public Advocate with little money left to fight next year.

Friend, don’t worry, no one in the Homosexual Lobby will ever know how much you’ve contributed to Public Advocate.

 More below the fold…

I assure you your personal information is fully protected and kept confidential.

But when I turn in my 990 next year, the Homosexual Lobby will know exactly how much money I raised — and how much I still have left to oppose the Homosexual Agenda next year.

After November's election results, the radical Homosexual Lobby will be looking for ANY sign of weakness in the pro-family movement. Believe me, they haven’t given up.

And since they just defeated us by passing the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, they’re hungry for more blood. If they see Public Advocate’s treasury depleted they will have an opening to tempt newly-elected Congressmen into passing the Gay Bill of Special Rights, the Homosexual Classrooms Act.

Without your financial support and prayers, Public Advocate would be nothing — totally helpless against the radical homosexuals’ assaults on our families.

Friend, you have done so much for our cause. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Today, I’m asking you to dig even deeper. I hope to count on you for at least — 0 or even 0 if you can afford it.

Please don’t just set this email aside or delete it
.

If we hope to best the Homosexual Agenda next year, we must end this year strong — and the last thing I want to do is submit a public financial report that shows I clearly did not meet my budget goals for 2010.

That’s why I’m asking you to give whatever you can afford today.

My friend, I hope you understand why this deadline is so important to me.

Deviant Homosexual Operatives are about to know exactly how much I raised this year, and how much cash I have on hand to oppose their radical agenda
.

The Homosexual Lobby utterly despises Public Advocate and ridicules all the work you and I do to defend morality in America.

The Human Rights Campaign, The Gay Task Force, GLAAD, The North American Man/Boy Love Association, and every other radical homosexual organization will be scouring our finance report to exploit every chink in my armor.

The consequences could prove dire for the American family.

Right now Homosexual Activists are plotting to tempt the newly-elected Republicans into passing their perverse agenda. They will tell them passing the Gay Bill of Special Rights will “expand the tent” and “keep you in the majority.

And I have almost nothing left financially.

I have the troops and volunteers.

I have their commitment to fight on.
I have the organization to take this battle to the front lines.

But without the financial armaments to take on the radical homosexual threat, I can do nothing while our government helps eradicate biblical morality from America
.

And now that President Barack Obama and far-left Democrats have passed Thought Control AND repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, the threat grows more and more powerful every day.

I must know if I can continue to count on you — if you’ll stand with me in reaching my budget goals before December 31st.

I hate having to tell you like this, but I have no other choice.

Money is so tight now that I may have to scale back critical pro-family programs at the worst time of year — as Congress begins its new session in January.

As you know, my office doesn’t receive public funding for our important pro-family campaigns.

While the Homosexual Lobby continues to siphon millions of taxpayer dollars to bankroll ideological subterfuges like “AIDS Awareness” campaigns and radical “sex education” initiatives, I raise every penny from concerned Americans like you.

Today, my friend, I ask you to please make a generous contribution — now, before it’s too late.

I pray I can keep all of Public Advocate’s programs running strong to confront the radical Homosexual Agenda and defeat the deplorable tactics of their shadowy Congressional cronies.

But Public Advocate can’t keep up the pace without additional financial support from pro-family patriots like you
.

The radical Homosexual Lobby outspent Public Advocate 30 to 1 this year, and their dirty war chest continues to grow at an alarming rate.

Nevertheless, Public Advocate managed to check the Homosexual Lobby on several fronts.

We used your petitions to strike fear in the hearts of enough Congressmen and Senators to stave off a vote on the Gay Bill of Special Rights and the Homosexual Classrooms Act
.

After facing these setbacks, however, the Homosexual Lobby is ramping-up their attack strategy.

They weren’t prepared for electoral wave that swept across America.

Now they’re promising never to let that happen again.

With anti-family Barack Obama ready with pen in hand, Democrats in charge of the Senate and weak kneed Republicans in the House, the Homosexual Lobby still has plenty of allies in Washington to ram though their perverse agenda.

They seek to force your state to recognize homosexual “marriages” from Massachusetts by repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, effectively making our victories in places like Maine null and void
.

And moreover, you can expect to see the rest of the pro-homosexual bills like the Gay Bill of Special Rights trotted out before Congress once again.

They’ll be looking to exploit our every weakness in the months to come.

No wonder they’ll be pouring over my finance report like demented hyenas in search of fresh meat.

My friend, that’s why your emergency gift of — or even 0 is so important
.

Without it, the Homosexual Lobby will be able to show Public Advocate’s 990s to moderate politicians as proof there is no effective opposition to their agenda.

Not only that, if we fail to meet our goals we won’t be able to fund all of our pro-family programs next year — we must not only show the Homosexual Lobby we have the funds, but we must also be able to follow through with the actually programs.

I am counting on you to stand by my side and to help me raise the funds I need by December 31st
.

Only with your continued financial support and prayers can I continue to defend the American family in key battles across America.

My friend, whether you can send — 0 or even 0 — or whatever you can afford — I would be tremendously grateful.

You have been there for me in the past. I hope and pray you will pull through for me before December 31st by sending your most generous contribution
.

Thank you, and God bless.

Sincerely,

Eugene Delgaudio
President, Public Advocate of the United States

P.S. I urgently need your help before December 31st — the cut off for me to disclose to the IRS exactly how much money Public Advocate has raised and spent this year.

And after a long year of leading the fight to oppose the Homosexual Agenda in Washington, I have little ammunition left to fight back or mount an offense.

However much it pains me to say it, I haven’t met my fundraising goals this year — and if I turn in a report advertising that fact, the Homosexual Lobby will exploit our weakness and move in for the kill.

Your emergency gift of — or even 0 will save Public Advocate from certain defeat next year as the Homosexual Lobby still has many allies in Congress and the anti-family Obama White House
.
