Shrien Dewani, the British Indian man suspected of ordering a hit on his Swedish Indian wife Anni while on their honeymoon in South Africa, has shot down rumors (through his publicist) that he's gay, which might explain why he wanted his wife out of the way. But now a German escort has come forward, claiming Shrien paid him for sex.

Paladino Attacks Cuomo’s Gay Rights Record, Wife Speaks

Carl Paladino has released the first in what he says will be a series of vibrantly-named attack ads aimed at Andrew Cuomo. The first so-called "Cuomo Land" ad lambastes the gubernatorial candidate for being hypocritical in his stance on marriage equality in New York state.

The New York Daily News points out how the ad might be a bad idea for Paladino:

Paladino, who staunchly opposes gay nuptials, accused Cuomo of being a hypocrite for touting his support for same-sex weddings now – but being "all but invisible" when the issue was before the Legislature last year. "He was asked by those pushing for the measure to call three wavering senators," the Paladino campaign said in the first of what it promises will be daily "Cuomo Land" attacks.

Political pros were puzzled that Paladino would attack Cuomo on gays, given that the Tea Party darling's campaign unraveled this week after he delivered an anti-gay diatribe. Veteran Democratic operative Hank Sheinkopf called it a "bad choice of a first issue" for the "Cuomo Land" attacks. "All it will do is reinforce the fact that he looked like a bigot last week," Sheinkopf said.

Paladino lifts some of his attack information from this New York Times article, published earlier this summer, that focused on Cuomo's support of the gay community.

Meanwhile, taking a different approach than Laura Bush did during her husband's run in the White House, Mrs. Paladino has publicly stated her opinion on marriage equality. She told the New York Times: “I have gay friends, and they’re some of the most generous, loving people you ever want to meet. If they want to live together and be together and share a life, that’s their business.”

She also commented on his controversial remarks last weekend: “I don’t know how it came out. Probably badly — it usually does.” When someone says, "There is nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual," I'd say "badly" is an understatement.

Mrs. Paladino also revealed that her openly gay nephew is upset by her husband's critical views on the LGBT community. Sounds like that's why he went AWOL earlier this week.

Andrew Cuomo says "Gay Marriage is the civil rights issue of our time" (New York Daily News, Oct 15, 2010)
"As a landmark gay marriage bill hurtled toward an uncertain vote last year, New York's Democratic leaders scrambled to corral support. Gov. David A. Paterson delivered impassioned speeches, Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand headlined a giant rally and City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn shuttled back and forth to Albany to lobby lawmakers.

But the state's most popular Democrat, Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, was all but invisible.

He was asked by those pushing for the measure to call three wavering senators. He never spoke with two of them, their aides said, and did not reach another until after the senator had voted — against the bill.

In the end, none of the three senators supported the bill." (The New York Times July 8, 2010)

Rolltide…by the good wife

I’m not a big football fan, but I’m slowly being converted by Kate and my in-laws to monitor Alabama football. I’m a good wife…

Of course the Rolltide brigade was here in Durham a couple of weekends ago to kick Duke’s *ss. Predicted of course, but it was amazing to see all of the ‘Bama fans RV and drive their way here to take over the city. They were EVERYWHERE.

We went to the Carolina Ale House, a local sports bar, and almost everyone in our section was an Alabama fan. The Ale House even had a large banner outside offering shuttle service to the game.

Alabama fans were boistrous and friendly. We watched the local news coverage, which focused on the RV farm that had sprouted up for the weekend. Now mind you, NC is in the South, but this was the opportunity for our media to find the most inarticulate, overexcited redneck from the Deep South to feature on the air. Usually it’s the Northern media making fun of some of our ‘flavorful’ North Carolinians, so I guess it’s a media race to the bottom to make all Southerners look dumb or (crazy or both). Here you go, featured Alabama “guest” Cary Hill (he makes two appearances in the segment):

This week Alabama is playing the Gators. ROLLTIDE! (Was that convincing?)

* Today’s my opportunity to experience stereo Alabama football eruptions in my living room

Is Bigoted Troop Defender Sen. John Boehner Cheating On His Wife With a Lobbyist?

Mike Stark has made a career, or at least a few blog headlines, by confronting elected officials without appointments and asking them invasive questions. Like whether Sen. Lindsey Graham is a gay, or whether Rep. Patrick McHenry is too close of a friend to Dorothy. Now Stark is back with accusations that House Minority Leader John Boehner, a family values father of two, is cheating on his wife of 37 years with a lobbyist.

Conservative Minister Crispin Blunt Comes Out, Leaves Wife

On the heels of Ken Mehlman’s coming out earlier this week…

Conservative minister Crispin Blunt has separated from his wife of 20 years and issued a statement on his coming out:

Blunt “Crispin Blunt wishes to make it known that he has separated from his wife Victoria. He decided to come to terms with his homosexuality and explained the position to his family. The consequence is this separation.

“There is no third-party involvement but this is difficult for his immediate and wider family and he hopes for understanding and support for them. The family do not wish to make any further public comment and hope that their privacy will be respected as they deal with these difficult private issues.”

Blunt’s friends tell the Daily Mail that the politician, who is 50, has been undergoing a ’30-year journey’ wrestling with his sexuality

His voting history on gay rights is mixed. While he did vote in favor of adoption rights for gay couples, in 1998 he was opposed to removing the ban on gays in the miltary saying “Military ethos has been progressively undermined. Letting overt gays in is another stage in the process.” The UK lifted that ban one year later.Blunt himself served in the British Army for over 10 years.

Click here to see how he voted on other issues related to gay rights.

Blunt’s niece is actress Emily Blunt, who while promoting the movie Sunshine in which she played a lesbian told the Guardian she wanted “to become a gay icon.”

Newt’s second wife, Marianne, talks about his three marriages, two divorces and annulment

What great timing. Last week, thrice married Newt Gingrich was one of the first right-wingers to trash the Prop. 8 decision. It was the height of hypocrisy.

Then, this week, Esquire printed a profile of Newt Gingrich, complete with some revelations from his second wife, Marianne. She talked about their divorce for the first time:

She kind of guessed it, of course. Women usually do. But did she know the woman was in her apartment, eating off her plates, sleeping in her bed?

She called a minister they both trusted. He came over to the house the next day and worked with them the whole weekend, but Gingrich just kept saying she was a Jaguar and all he wanted was a Chevrolet. ” ‘I can’t handle a Jaguar right now.’ He said that many times. ‘All I want is a Chevrolet.’ “

He asked her to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused.

He’d just returned from Erie, Pennsylvania, where he’d given a speech full of high sentiments about compassion and family values.

The next night, they sat talking out on their back patio in Georgia. She said, “How do you give that speech and do what you’re doing?”

“It doesn’t matter what I do,” he answered. “People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.”

Newt’s a Catholic now. He had both previous marriages annulled in order to marry the woman, Calista (a.k.a. “The Chevrolet”) with whom he was having the affair when married to Marianne.

So, I particularly enjoyed Marianne’s comments on Newt’s Catholicism:

When asked about his conversion, Marianne laughs.

Why is that funny?

“It has no meaning.”

It has no meaning?

“It’s hysterical. I got a notice that they wanted to nullify my marriage. They’re making jokes about it on local radio. The minute he got married, divorced, married, divorced — what does the Catholic Church say about this?”

It doesn’t matter what Newt does or how he lives his life. It’s what he says. That will make a great slogan for his presidential campaign.
