Winston Churchill once observed, “Golf is a game whose aim it is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole with weapons ill-designed for the purpose.”
This weekend, gay and lesbian golfers will be up for the challenge as the Different Strokes Golf Association hosts the Texas Shootout, a two-day tournament held at two North Texas public courses.
Founded in 1997, Different Strokes the league has more than 75 members. Every Saturday morning, 30 or 40 of these golf enthusiasts gather for tee-time to hit the links.
The Shootout, however, begins in the early afternoon, and the tournament will serve as Different Strokes’ club championship. Open to golfers of all skill levels. Participants (registration deadline was Sept. 30) can elect to play in the shootout one of the days “just for fun.”
