Last week we ran a story about a poll showing that a majority of California voters support same-sex marriage. Well I just noticed that The Houston Chronicle, which seems to do a better job than our daily paper of covering gay issues, is conducting an online poll about the subject. Granted, online polls aren’t scientific, and it’s probably been influenced by blog posts like this, but the results thus far still seem a little surprising for Texas.
Fifty-two percent of respondents say Texas should permit same-sex marriages and recognize commitments from other states, 11 percent say Texas should permit civil unions but not same-sex marriages, 22 percent say the law should remain the same (no same-sex marrages), and 12 percent say we should return to the days when homosexual conduct was a crime. Another 1 percent say something that I can’t quite make out on my browser, but maybe yours will work better. If you’d like to vote and/or see the results for yourself, go here.
