Officials with the TV newsmagazine Inside Edition have announced that Zoey Tur is joining the show as a special correspondent during the month of February, making Tur America’s first transgender television reporter. Formerly known as Chopper Bob, Tur is the helicopter pilot who covered the infamous O.J. Simpson police pursuit and who captured the Los Angeles riots from the air.
Tur has completed gender reassignment surgery and on the Tuesday, Feb. 3 broadcast of Inside Edition, will take viewers through her transformation. Some people have questioned whether Tur retained her skills as a pilot following surgery, and on Wednesday, Feb. 4, Tur takes to the air for the first time to prove those folks wrong.
“There’s diversity in nature, so why not the media?” Tur said. “I want to thank Inside Edition for their support in what’s shaping up to be America’s last civil rights fight.”
Inside Edition Executive Producer Charles Lachman said, ” We are thrilled to have Zoey join Inside Edition … and make some TV history.”
Inside Edition is produced by Inside Edition Inc. and distributed by CBS Television Distribution. Check local listings for stations and times the shows will air here.
