‘Real Women Have Curves’ opens at Kalita

Many people have probably seen the indie film Real Women Have Curves (where we were all introduced to America Ferrera), but it was based on a play about the same topic: A full-figured Latina and efforts to break free of the domination of her traditional mother. The Dallas Theater Center mounts its version of the acclaimed play, which addresses issues of cultural, body image, feminism and more.

DEETS:
Kalita Humphreys Theater,

Dallas Eagle celebrates its 24th anniversary

Although it hasn’t always been in the same spot, the Dallas Eagle has been a staple of the North Texas leather community for nearly a quarter of a century. On Saturday, the club will celebrate with a dance party called, appropriately enough, Twisted. London-based DJ Paul Coals will spin at the event, which officially gets underway at 10 p.m. and goes until 2 a.m.

DEETS:
Dallas Eagle, 5740 Maple Ave. $10 cover.
