Last weekend was the running of the Kentucky Derby, which always calls to mind bourbon drinks, especially the mint julep. So we offer up this twist on it.
2 tbsp hibiscus honey simple syrup (equal parts honey, warm water and dried hibiscus flowers)
Fresh mint leaves
1.5 oz. Maker’s Mark bourbon
Making it: In a cocktail shaker, muddle syrup and some mint leaves. Add Maker’s and water. Fill a julep glass with crushed ice and strain in bourbon mixture. Garnish with honeycomb and additional mint sprigs.
