Steven Royce Kirkland, 41, died Jan. 6 in Dallas.

Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., Kirkland spent his childhood years in Waurika, Okla., attending school there through eighth grade. He was baptized at the age of 8 at First Baptist Church of Waurika. The family moved to Duncan in 1979 where Kirkland graduated from Duncan High School in May of 1983. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1987 with a degree in journalism.

Kirkland was very musically talented. He played piano and wrote several songs. He loved listening to music and watching science fiction movies. He was also an animal lover and had a special way with them.

Michael Jerome Johnk, 53, of Dallas died Jan. 6.

He was born in Biloxi, Miss., and was very active in the gay community, participating in numerous fundraising events.

Johnk had a great love for his pets, Cleo and Lephi.

Johnk is survived by his parents, Jerome and Faye Johnk; his partner of 24 years, John Tate; his brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Sue Johnk; his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Terry Nelson; close friend Brandon Lewis and many other friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hughes Funeral Home/Jefferson Chapel, 400 E. Jefferson Blvd. in Dallas.
