Julie Johnson squared off with bathroom bill author Matt Rinaldi on Inside Texas Politics on Sunday on WFAA. Rinaldi’s top issue is capping property tax. Johnson said each city is different with different growth rates and different needs. She doesn’t think the state needs to be legislating local property taxes. Johnson wants to adequately fund public schools. Rinaldi favors “school choice,” which is code for vouchers that fund private schools.

When Rinaldi tried to paint Johnson as a left-wing extremist, Johnson pointed out all the Republican support she’s picked up, including Rinaldi’s Republican predecessor.

Watch the 10 minute debate. It gets nasty but Johnson stayed cool.
