Dang. If you missed Rufus Wainwright’s gig at Nokia in Grand Prairie last Saturday, you missed a good one. After two opening acts, which included the impeccable Neko Case, our favorite gay crooner took the stage for a two-hour show that let out after midnight. A gorgeous evening with a seven-piece band, Wainwright waltzed us through his latest disc, “Release the Stars.” The acoustics proved spine tingling with his surreal three-bass-guitar rendition of “Leaving for Paris No. 2.” Wainwright also ditched the microphone to belt out a heartfelt Irish folk song. And yes, Rufus ended with a bang when he broke out high heels and lipstick for a Judy Garland homage.
