Jean Nelson died March 16, 2016, at the age of 93. Born Oct. 30, 1922, in San Augustine, Jean’s passion centered around her family, service to her church and community, and her fondness for travel and gardening. All those who loved her dearly will feel the effect of Jean’s physical absence but her positive impact will endure for generations. Jean expressed it best herself when she said, “Love leaves behind more that death takes away.”
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Nelson Sr., and son, Bill Nelson Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Perkins and husband Allan; three grandchildren, Brian Overby and wife Sabra, Kim Perkins and Dena Hamrick and husband Kyle; and six great-grandchildren, Aidan, Kennedy, Corin, Brianna, Blayne and Jenson.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, April 1, at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 5830 Bermuda Dunes Drive in Houston. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Margaret Jean Nelson to John Wesley United Methodist Church and/or the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic (named in memory of Jean’s son), at 4012 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas, Texas 75219.
