Dallas police actively seeking GLBT recruits for the first time

The Resource Center of Dallas is holding a job fair at the John Tomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center on March 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The job fair is free, and coordinators are expecting as many as 300 people to attend. Coordinators hope at least 50 employers will operate booths. Representatives of AIDS and GLBT services agencies, educational facilities and vendors selling food and drinks will also be on hand.

The Dallas Police Department will be at the job fair, marking the first time for it to recruit from the GLBT community, according to Laura Martin, the police department’s liaison to the GLBT community.

Henry Ramirez III, center programs coordinator, said the center’s staff is continuing to recruit employers for the job fair.

“We’re getting a lot of good interest in it,” Ramirez said.

Employer booths are $150.
