In this week’s print edition, I write a front-page story about Dallas PUMP, the GLBT youth choir in which I interview one of its founding teens, David Negrete. Talking to this well-spoken, assured, thoughtful young man was easily the high-point of my week… maybe my month. Certainly a gratifying professional task. He’s less than half my age, but seems like — and I usually HATE this term — an “old soul.” The story doesn’t make a dent in capturing the maturity and appeal of this young man, but I know a lot of adult who could learn a thing or two talking to him.
