Calling all drag queens: Are you looking to become a star on the small screen? Then you just might want to head to Austin on Saturday.

Vicky Boone Casting is conducting a regional search for drag queens to play lead roles in an upcoming HBO pilot, called Mama Dallas and created by writer/filmmaker Mike White of Enlightened, Chuck & Buck and School of Rock fame.

There will be an open casting call Saturday, Nov. 15, from 2-6 p.m. at Bout Time II, 6607 I-35 in Austin, to cast the lead part of “Liberty Bell.”

According to the press release from Vicky Boone Casting, Liberty Bell “appears to be an attractive, sexy woman with a flirty side — but she’s not, really. Born Albert De Lorio, Liberty is a drag queen with an ebullient, chatty, upbeat personality, but she leads an unpleasantly seedy life … a life that she plans to turn around with a little re-invention and identity theft.”

The filmmaker is looking for a 30-something male of open ethnicity to play the role.

You don’t need an appointment for the open casting call, and people will be seen on a first-come, first-seen basis. Anyone who is cast will be compensated “on the scale of professional actors.”

Those interested in auditioning may email a picture in advance to vbcfeatures@gmail.com with the subject title “Mamma Dallas” and include their name, resume, best contact info and current city of residence.

Interested parties are also encouraged to create free account on actorsaccess.com.

Shooting for Mamma Dallas begins March 2015.

(And given recent news about a scammer working Oak Lawn and posing as a “modeling agent,” let me include this info to establish Vicuy Boone Casting’s bona fides: The agent has done regional casting for such films as The Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints starring Rooney Mara, Parkland starring Paul Giamatti, Men, Women, and Children starring Adam Sandler and Richard Linklater’s upcoming That’s What I’m Talking About.)

‘Rocky Horror’ casting call changes

Two weeks ago, I posted a notice about an open casting call for Dallas Theater Center‘s upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show (they are looking for engaging side-show-like acts). Well, some of the information has changed. Due to a schedule conflict with director/choreographer Joel Ferrell, the event will now be held at the Wyly Theatre (instead of the Rose Room) and the time has been compressed. The correct information is below:

Wyly Theatre, 2400 Flora St.

Saturday, July 26

Check-in at 2:45 p.m., call from 3–4 p.m.

‘Top Chef’ gets renewed, brings search for next cheftestants to Dallas

Top ChefLast night on part 1 of the 11th season finale of Top Chef, cutie Louis and workhorse Shirley got booted during the elimination round on Maui, leaving temperamental Nicholas and deserving Nina in the final showdown, which will air next Wednesday. But the bigger Top Chef news in the last 24 hours is this: Not only has Bravo renewed the show for a 12th season, but it will kick off its search for kitchen talent in Dallas — and pretty soon.

On Feb. 18 from 10 am. to 1 p.m., producers will be holding a casting call at the Hotel Palomar before moving on to Atlanta, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. (No word on whether bearish host Tom Colicchio, pictured, will be in attendance, but fingers are crossed.) It’s a slightly ironic choice of location, as the menu at Central 214, the restaurant at the Palomar, is being reimagined by former Top Chef contestant John Tesar. Actually, Dallas has been the hometown to a lot of alums, including Tiffany Derry, Tre Wilcox and Casey Thompson.

Anyone wanting to sign up for the competition can download an application here.

All the single ladies should check out this casting call for Texas-based web TV show ‘LezBeProud’

Beginning April 15, four Texas lesbians will be front and center in the new web TV show LezBeProud. The show looks to be much like The Real L Word, but Lez focuses on two couples and all the Texas drama that goes with it. Amen, sistas! But the show is missing a single lady and has a casting call posted smack dab on their homepage. Here’s what they’re looking for:

Be a part of THE Ladies….
LezBeProud is looking for a “single” lady who doesn’t mind exposing her life to find true love. We are looking for someone who is proud and has a story to share with the world. This “single” lady must have a fun attitude, amazing personality, a few character flaws (so we know you are just like us), and most importantly you must have an open heart free from past jaded relationships.  Is that even possible in the lesbian world?

Submit an email with photo and tell The Ladies why you would like to tell your story on LezBeProud and why you are truly ready to find your soul mate.

The website is looking pretty slick and hopefully the show will too. The show invites peeps out to Sue Ellen’s, 3014 Throckmorton St., for the launch party. “Sizzle with the Ladies” on April 15 at 9 p.m. It will be filming that night as well for a future episode.
