If you like it build a museum to it, Houston may get Beyoncé monument

I'm sure the plans for the failed 555 ft "Spirit of Houston" statue are still in a drawer somewhere. Just make it more bootylicious and put a ring on it.

Hometown heroes have always been honored with monuments; from Hannibal, Missouri’s Mark Twain Museum to Cleveland’s memorial to President Garfield, from Atchison, Kansas’ Amelia Earhart museum, to Concord, Ohio’s John Glenn historic site. Pity Houston! Which scion of our fair burg will rise up from the shackles of obscurity to clasp the liberty of immortality that only a dedicated monument can bring?

Beyoncé Knowles, that’s who, at least according to two men who skyped with Fox 26 and are expecting the Mayor to endorse their plans any day now. Steve White and Marcus Mitchell of Armdeonce Ventures say they want to honor the newly minted musical mother with a “statue or museum.” According to Mitchell,

““Our biggest thing is a lot of people get honored when they die, so our goal is to why not honor people why they’re still here? We felt as though it’s her time to be honored. We wanted to construct, like, a massive hall so as the doors open, if you donated to the monument, you’ll have a separate nameplate.”

Armdeonce Ventures has offices in Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Houston according to it’s website. The Beyoncé Monument is the only project currently listed on the site.

Homocons GOProud Endorse Rep. Barney Frank’s GOP Opponent Sean Bialat

This just in from Quisling Headquarters.

Today, GOProud, the only national organization representing gay conservatives and their allies, endorsed Republican Sean Bielat in his race to unseat Democrat Barney Frank in Massachusetts’s 4th Congressional District. “If we really want to protect gay jobs we don’t need to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act [ENDA], we need to fire Barney Frank,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, Executive Director of GOProud. “From his perch atop the Financial Services committee, Barney Frank was one of the architects of the financial meltdown that cost millions of Americans – including gay and lesbian workers – their jobs. Sean Bielat is a common-sense conservative who supports policies that will grow our economy, create jobs, and improve the lives of all Americans, but especially gay and lesbian Americans.”

So in addition to opposing ENDA, GOProud supports a guy who wants to dismantle Social Security and Medicare, who opposes civil unions and same-sex marriage, and who has vowed to fight the repeal of DADT. GOProud and their supporters are no less the enemies of every LGBT American than the Family Research Council or Focus On The Family.

Socarides on how gay marriage has become a pro-gay litmus test, and on why Obama has to endorse marriage equality now

From Richard Socarides, a former top aide to President Clinton, who has guest blogged on AMERICAblog Gay before.

[W]here you stand on the issue of marriage has become a kind of political litmus test for gay voters on whether you support full or partial equality. It is now seen as a proxy for whether you believe gays and lesbians are entitled to full dignity, respect and inclusion in every aspect of American society. And whether, in essence, our struggle for equality is worthy as a civil rights movement. Just saying you are for equal rights will no longer cut it.

Chad Griffin, president of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which brought the Perry v. Schwarzenegger case in California, said immediately after the ruling: “Today we begin the process of saying to the millions of people who are made to feel ostracized, besieged, bullied and ashamed of how God made them — be who you are, love who you love and marry who you wish to marry.”

That is not someone talking about just a marriage license…

NEW YORK: Log Cabin Republicans Endorse Anti-Marriage AG Candidate

The Log Cabin Republicans today issued their endorsement of Dan Donovan for New York Attorney General. Donovan opposes marriage equality, but grudgingly allows that he’d defend whatever law the state enacts. Via press release:

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Log Cabin Republicans. As Richmond County District Attorney, I’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that our system of justice never discriminates against our citizens,” said Donovan. “I believe the law provides us the right to be treated fairly and I stand firmly against intolerance. As Attorney General, I’ll make that same commitment, to protect all New Yorkers’ rights under the law regardless of sexual orientation.”

“As the District Attorney of Staten Island, Mr. Donovan has a long and distinguished record of treating everyone equal under the law,” Log Cabin Republicans of New York State PAC Chairman Gregory T. Angelo stated. “He is a man of integrity with a selfless commitment to uphold the rights of all citizens of this state, and we look forward to working with him when he becomes the next Attorney General of the State of New York in November.”

Last week the state Democratic Party slammed Donovan’s opposition to marriage equality, saying, “The issue is a critical one in the race for Attorney General. Just last week, a federal judge reversed California’s same sex marriage ban thanks, in part, to a brief filed by the California Attorney General, Jerry Brown. And Attorneys General across the country have played a prominent role in promoting marriage equality, including in New York where Andrew Cuomo has defended the recognition of same sex marriages performed out of state.”
