Wine walk on Cedar Springs kicks off Pride

The September Cedar Springs Wine Walk takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The theme is Pride.

“We’re expecting a large crowd to kick off Pride at this week’s First Wednesday Wine Walk,” said Scott Whittall, president of the Cedar Springs Merchants Association.

Purchase a wine glass for $10 and then visit any of the participating stores and businesses from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Glasses can be purchased by Buli Cafe and Hunky’s.

Many of the stores are running specials. Everything is 30 percent off all day at Skivvies. At Nuvo, all purchases over $20 are 20 percent off. OutLines is offering 25 percent off all shorts, tank tops and swimwear. Union Jack is awarding double UJ points all day and sales in various store departments.

Restaurants and bars are also offering drink and food specials, including half-price appetizers at Black Eyed Pea.

Have your wine card stamped at any six participating locations and become eligible for a Scavenger Hunt special. Prizes have been donated by many of the street’s merchants.

TABC rules do not allow anyone to carry wine between locations. Remember to finish your glass before going back out on the sidewalk.

Whittall said to check the Cedar Springs Facebook page throughout the day as more merchants add specials.

Tip it at tonight's First Wednesday

If you’re heading out to tonight’s First Wednesday, plan on having a liquid dinner. Tonight, along with the sidewalk sales, the Cedar Springs Merchants Association hosts a Wine Walk. All you have to do is purchase a Cedar Springs wine glass for five bucks and then hit up the participating stores for some free vino.

And I dare you to yell, “Tip it!” to each vendor along the way. Just be careful about turning that Wine Walk into a Wine Stumble.

It's First Wednesday on the strip

FW

The Cedar Springs Merchants Association has had some bad luck with the weather this year. CSMA President Scott Whittall told me recently that it rained on the first Wednesday of the month, when retailers on the strip host their First Wednesday event, three consecutive times this summer. Well it doesn’t look like their luck will improve much for tonight’s holiday installment of First Wednesday, with forecasts calling for a low of 34 and a freeze warning overnight in some areas. But here’s the good news: It’s not supposed to rain or snow, and with the purchase of a $5 glass, you can stay warm with free wine and hot cider from participating merchants all night long. Santa Claus will of course be on hand, and there will be a Christmas tree lighting at 8 p.m., as well as performances by the Oak Lawn Band, the Turtle Creek Chorale and Voice of Pride winners. This month’s Wednesday night movie, “White Christmas,” will be shown on the patio of TMC beginning at 8 p.m. Also, if you need to warm up afterward, head on down to Dish at ilume. Dish will be hosting a private grand opening party but will reopen to the public at 10 p.m. with DJ Scene from Las Vegas.
