Alexandre’s seeking wreaths for annual Christmas Wreath Auction

wreathAlexandre’s, 4026 Cedar Springs Road, is looking for original wreath donations no larger than 48 inches for the upcoming Annual Wreath Auction from 8–10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. The wreath auctions benefits No Tie Dinner/Purple Party.

Organizers request all wreaths be submitted with an entry form providing a brief description of the wreath, its estimated value and the name of the donating individual or organization. The entry forms can be picked up anytime at Alexandre’s.

Wreaths may be dropped off at any time and up until the day of the event.

The fundraiser, hosted this year by Wayne Smith, is now in its seventh year. The pre-party begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, with catered food, drink specials and the opportunity for silent bidding before the auction.

Wreaths will be on display for viewing and silent bidding inside Alexandre’s before and on Dec. 14.

Purple Party Planning: DJs announced for 15th annual fundraising weekend

The Purple Party Foundation has announced the lineup of headlining DJs for Purple Party Weekend 2015. The event, set for May 8-11, celebrates its 15h birthday next spring, and organizers are promising that the DJs for 2015 will “light up the dance floor and stir your souls with their passion and talent.”

The lineup includes “fresh and familiar faces” of international stars and local favorites.

The weekend begins that Friday with  “Ignite,” the opening party, featuring DJ Ivan Gomez of Barcelona. On Saturday, DJ Doug Jackson of Fort Lauderdale spins for “Roar!,” the bear party, and DJ Wayne G of London spins Saturday at “Rise,” the pool party.

The main event happens Sunday when DJ Alyson Calagna of Miami and DJ Shane Stiel of Los Angeles burn it up at The Purple Party. DJ Danny Verde of Milan plays at “Revival,” the tea party, and things wind up with “Glow,” the closing party, featuring DJ Paulo of Los Angeles.

Early-bird passes are already on sale for the limited-time price of $129 — a 40 percent savings over the cost of buying tickets at the door, Warwick Melrose Hotel is again the host hotel for the event.

Purple Foundation, established in 2001, is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to raising money to help improve the lives of people in the Dallas area living with HIV/AIDS. Since its inception, Purple Party Foundation has donated more than $600,000 toward that end. Purple Party Foundation’s primary beneficiary is AIDS Services of Dallas, which provides housing for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

If you can’t remember what you did at Purple Party, here are the pics

IMG_8572Thousands of people turned out for the three-day Purple Party celebration May 9 – 11. I know most of you were on your best behavior and can remember every single thing you did. And for those of you who weren’t … well, we have pictures. Lots and lots of pictures.

Purple Foundation Executive Director Blake Baker isn’t answering his phone right now to give us details about attendance and revenue. Who can blame him? We expect he’ll be sleeping for a week to recover from this huge event. Congratulations, Blake. You and your volunteers did an incredible job.

We’ll have more information when Blake wakes up. In the meantime, enjoy the pics. You can see them here. And, yes, I know that when you click on the first pic, it tells you it’s No. 24. We’re working on it. Chill.

WATCH: GayTravel.com guru recaps Dallas Purple Party

This past spring, I spent a few days hanging out with Bryan Kosarek, GayTravel.com’s 2013 “travel guru” as he checked out the Purple Party — and the rest of Dallas gay life, for that matter.

Well, Bryan has now posted his video detailing his experience here. It’s always interesting to see your city portrayed by an outsider.

If you miss the fun of the Purple Party — and weather below 100 degrees — watch and reminisce.

WATCH: Purple Party wants to start getting you in the mood for its big weekend of events in May

As a sort of “save the date,” the Purple Party organizers released this trailer previewing its big May weekend. It looks to be an impressive one with the lineup of parties they have scheduled. From Joe Gauthreaux, pictured, opening the weekend at Station 4 to DJs Paolo and Tank’s closing night sets at Plush, the weekend is packed with marquee DJs throughout five different venues in Dallas. Check ‘em out. More than just a party, the event also benefits AIDS Services of Dallas.

Watch the trailer after the jump.

Purple Party 10 looked like a blast

I’ve been keeping an eye out for any video footage of the Purple Party and finally stumbled on it today. I guess some snuck in under my not-so-watchful eye. Although I expected there would be vids of Michelle Williams’ performance at the House of Blues and some of the DJs that came to town for the Purple Party, I didn’t expect to see these.

Just Circuit posted a video of Power Infiniti performing at House of Blues along with a slideshow of partygoers. They did, however, get Williams to introduce the vid. Good job. The House of Blues also included an aerialist performer caught here. Perhaps my personal favorite though is the video of this cheer performance. There is no telling if this is the local team Dallas Pride Cheer, but for sure, they weren’t like any squad I ever saw on the football field in high school.

Concert notice: Michelle Williams to perform at the House of Blues for the Purple Party

You might be aware the Purple Party is just around the corner. The annual dance party benefiting AIDS Services of Dallas is a weekend long affair happening across a slew of nightclubs throughout the city. You can see the schedule and list of DJs here. But I just saw today that former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams is headlining the Saturday night affair at the House of Blues on May 1.

Outside of the group, Williams is known mostly for her urban contemporary gospel music but released her first pop/R&B album, Unexpected in 2008. She just finished up a seven-week stint as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway. Which is all fine and dandy, but really, who can forget the singer’s’ tearful moment from the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race where Akashia’s lipsynced for her life with  Williams’ single, “We Break the Dawn.” It was delightfully cheesy.

In contrast, her video for the single is kinda sexy.
