Tammy Bruce Resigns From GOProud Board

Bruce posted about her resignation on her website, though she did not provide a reason for quitting the board of the conservative group.

Tammy Hi everyone,

I want to let you know that after being a supporter and serving as Chair of the Advisory Board since May of 2010, I gave Chris Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia my resignation Saturday night. If you search GOProud here at the blog you’ll see the affection with which I’ve held both Chris and Jimmy, and I wish them well.

As Independent Conservatives and Tea Party patriots, we have a lot of work to do in the next two years taking our great nation back, and I do look forward to continuing to work with conservatives across the spectrum on the issues with which we all have in common.

This on the lasy day of CPAC, which GOProud has been a part of but not without quite a bit of controversy.

Colorado: officer resigns – posted hundreds of racist, homophobic comments on news sites on the job

It must be really difficult for someone to handle their own racism and homophobia that is so intense that you can’t think straight, as it were. A 13-year member of the Douglas County (Colorado) Sheriff’s office resigned for posting bigoted statements on public news sites while on duty and on a county computer.

Lt. Jeff Egnor resigned Tuesday after Douglas County officials confronted him about hundreds of postings on the 7NEWS website, www.thedenverchannel.com, and the KUSA-TV website, according to Undersheriff Tony Spurlock.

Posting under the screen name “Abu Mybutt“, Egnor commented on various stories from police shootings to the elimination of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that will let gay soldiers serve openly in the military. “New miltary slogans: The few, the queer, the Marines! Butt Rangers lead the way! Be as gay as you can be! Aim for a high hard one, Air Force! Join the Navy, see naked men!” Egnor posted on Dec. 20, 2010, misspelling military.

Two similar posts: “Now we have a new weapon against our enemies: the sissy slap! :-P” and “I hear the Army is forming a new division: The Rump Rangers! :-D.” Egnor also made comments about religious figures and attacked liberals, saying Democrats are ruining the United States.

Egnor made it clear that he worked in government and when other readers of TheDenverChannel.com complained, 7NEWS filed an open records request to determine who was using the Douglas County Internet Provider address linked to the postings. After the 7NEWS request, Spurlock said superiors confronted Egnor Tuesday morning. He resigned that afternoon.

He also commented on stories about sports figures like the arrest of Parrish Cox for sex assault.

“Another member of the ‘thug’ culture that the NFL promotes. You can take the player out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the player! Hey I’ve got a great idea, let’s take a gangbanger from the hood, throw millions of dollars at him, worship him as a god, kiss his butt night and day, let the media slober all over him! Then they are all suddenly shocked when the thug acts like a thug!”

I think this shows you that many news sites (that often times are not moderated), are  havens for some of the most, um, unbalanced extreme commenters, who like to hide under the cloak of anonymity. That this ass disclosed that he worked for the taxpayers in Douglas County, saved everyone the trouble of purging Abu Mybutt/former Lt. Jeff Egnor from the comments. For now. Abu can now look for work.

MA: Holy Grounds Coffee House manager resigns; failed to register as a convicted sex offender

Anti-gay pastor Scott Lively was drawing young truants to his Springfield, MA coffeehouse, promising to bring his brand of homophobic spirituality to the town. One problem with pious, hateful “Christians” like Lively is the oh-too-hilarious ignorance/foolishness regarding background checks for employees, thinking anyone professing to be a believer is, ahem, honest and trustworthy. BZZZZT FAIL. On an epic scale.

Michael J. Frediani, 38, “has resigned from his volunteer position as a manager of the coffee house and we have accepted his resignation,” said Scott Lively, who is pastor of Redemption Gate Mission Society which owns and operates the coffee house. The site also serves as a church with worship services and Bible study, and visitors to the coffee house, since opening in October, have included students from the nearby High School of Commerce.

Frediani was convicted in 1996 of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in New York state, and served more than two years in prison. He is listed as a Level 3 (high risk) sexual offender in that state and as a Level 2 (moderate risk) offender in Massachusetts.

Frediani had identified himself as Michael Free and as a born again Christian in an earlier interview by The Republican. Police said Michael Free is an alias.

The ministry’s board “is unanimous in supporting his claim to be a changed man,” Lively said.

Read up on this debacle:

  • Jan. 13: Lively says he didn’t know his manager is a convicted sex offender
  • Jan. 13: Police arrest manager of Holy Grounds Coffee House as unregistered sex offender
  • Jan. 10: Lively says students prohibited from coffee shop during school hours
  • Jan. 7: Springfield officials worry Holy Grounds coffee shop attracts truants

Palm Springs Police Chief Resigns Over Remarks Made During Sting Targeting Gay Men

Palm Springs Police Chief David Dominguez resigned today over remarks he made during a sting operation targeting gay men in the city's Warm Sands neighborhood in 2009, the Southwest Riverside News Network reports

Dominguez Dominguez came under fire after a June 2009 operation in the Warm Sands neighborhood. The sting, which netted 19 arrests, was done in response to what police said were complaints about drug use, public sex and prostitution in Warm Sands. However, it drew complaints that police were targeting gay men unfairly.

During a pretrial hearing, one defendant said a police officer could be heard using a gay slur on a video recording in an undercover vehicle. An attorney for some of those arrested said Dominguez was in that particular car.

The lawyer lodged a complaint, alleging Dominguez disparaged the arrestees to his officers.

“What a bunch of filthy mother (expletive),” Dominguez allegedly said. “You guys should get paid extra for this.”

As Steve reported last week, "According to court documents, Dominguez used the phrase 'filthy motherf**kers' while another officer involved in the sting was overheard using the slur 'c**ksuckers.'"

Dominguez also apologized last week, but issued this statement today: "“After careful consideration of the events surrounding the Warm Sands undercover operation, I believe this decision is in the best interest of my family, the city and the Police Department."

CNN: DMV Employee Resigns Over Letter Condemning Customer To Hell

Well, this is relatively good news, although the outcome could have been better. CNN is reporting the following in their piece DMV Employee Resigns Over Letter Condemning Customer To Hell:

A California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) employee who allegedly wrote a letter to a transgender woman and condemned her to hell has resigned, officials said Thursday.

The employee, who worked for the DMV for two years, resigned Wednesday and will not receive benefits or unemployment, according to department spokesman Mike Marando.

“This in no way diminishes the severity of the situation,” Marando said, adding officials believe the DMV employee’s behavior was an isolated matter.

The attorney for the transgender woman said the employee should have been fired, instead of being allowed to resign.

Amber Yust has taken out a restraining order on Thomas Demartini, the now former DMV employee. If you read the letter from Thomas Demartini, you get an idea of why Amber took out the restraining order:

    Dear _____________,

On Thursday, October 21,2010, I helped you get a driver’s license or ID card at the San Francisco DMV. I noticed that you were changing your name and had supporting documents for the change. As I recall one of those documents outlined something to do with a gender change.

Thumbnail Link: Letter Sent To Amber Yust From Former California DMV Employee Thomas DemartiniI have learned that the reason for the vast majority of gender change operations is the client’s homosexual orientation. The homosexual act is an abomination that leads to hell. “If anyone lie with a man as with a woman, both have committed an abomination: let them be put to death.” (Leviticus 20:13) “Do not err. Neither … the effeminate nor Iiers with mankind … shall posses the Kingdom of God:(l Corinthians 6:9-10). The homosexual act is one of the sins that cries to heaven for vengeance. Supporting those who commit this act and encouraging and justifying those who have the orientation also lead one to hell.

Romans 1:21-32 explains how the homosexual orientation is connected with worshiping visible things in the world rather than the One Who created them. If this orientation is the reason for an operation that has yet to occur (or is in the process), I beg you–DO NOT GO THROUGH WITH IT!

You can see that I do not support gender change operations. Consider Genesis 1:21: “Male and female he [God] created them”; and then Leviticus 19:28″: You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh.” Jesus clearly prohibits gender change operations. If an operation like this is the reason for changing one’s name, then one has made a very evil decision.

Although I helped you with the name change, I have to say I do not support the reason for it if it relates to the above. If it does I must say I do not approve of this name change, and I also do not believe the state’s recognition of it through official documents-makes it legitimate or any less evil

Please take a look at www.vaticancatholic.com. This website has critical information for your salvation and much more on many other topics.

    In Charity,

Someone who engages in the kind of behavior that Demartini is alleged to have engaged in shouldn’t be allowed to resign, but instead he should have been be fired. In my opinion, the California DMV should have fired Demartini if their inquiry verified he sent the letter — that, to me, would have been a more optimal outcome. Specifically culling out a woman who is from a protected class due to her gender identity should be treated in the harshest manner — especially since Demartini has a history of not treating transgender people with dignity and respect — he’s apparently has previously engaged in antitransgender behavior on the job at the DMV.

Basically, how Amber Yust is alleged to have been mistreated is beyond the pale unacceptable. The perpetrator of any kind of discrimination against someone who belongs to a protected class should be fired, not be allowed to resign.

School Board Member Clint McCance Resigns Under Fire for Facebook Comments

Clint McCance, appearing on Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN this evening, announced that he will resign from the Midland School Board.  The controversy erupted when McCance unleashed an anti-gay tirade on Facebook in response to a rash of bullying-related suicides.

Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement:

“Clint McCance’s decision to resign from the school board is a step forward for the community he represents.  We are hopeful the wounds that were inflicted will soon be healed.  What remains troubling is that Mr. McCance focused his regret on particular word choices not the animus behind those words.  We hope he will take this time to reflect not only on the language he used but on what he can do to make the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people better.”

Clint McCance Resigns: The Back Story

Fair-minded Americans were thrilled last night when Clint McCance – the Midlands School Board Vice President from Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, who was under fire for an anti-gay Facebook tirade – announced he would resign from the board.  Appearing on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, McCance apologized for his screed that said he would disown his children if they were gay and encouraged LGBT youth suicide.  Read his full posts from when we broke the news on Tuesday evening.

HRC was originally alerted to the comments by Anthony Turner, a 1998 graduate of Midland High School.  Turner’s hope was that national attention would help kids from his town – and ones like it – know that people care about them and hopefully prevent other officials from creating the kind of environment that McCance fostered.  On the heels of a number of bullying-related suicides, we could not let McCance’s hate-filled posts go unanswered.

Because of Arkansas law, the only option at our disposal was for Mr. McCance to resign so we sprang into action to bring enormous pressure upon him, his colleagues on the local school board and his constituents.

The Advocate was the first media outlet to report the story on Tuesday evening, causing so much traffic that their site was periodically unavailable.  Other LGBT blogs followed suit.  HRC also posted screenshots of McCance’s rant on our blog, additionally pointing users to our “Welcoming Schools” resources that give elementary school administrators, teachers and parents across the country the tools to prevent bias-based teasing and harassment among elementary school students.

Recognizing the impact social media would have on the way this news spread, HRC immediately created a “Fire Clint McCance” Facebook page that began growing at over 1,000 new “likes” per hour.  The group now has about 65,000 followers.  Additionally, we created an online action for citizens to write to the school board and encourage them to call for McCance’s resignation.  HRC President Joe Solmonese personally wrote to the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, the Arkansas Department of Education, members of the Midland School Board and to McCance himself.

Word spread like wildfire and we were able to book Anthony Turner on Wednesday evening’s Anderson Cooper 360 show to tell his story and shine a bright light on McCance’s hate.  Turner was also interviewed by MSNBC, Headline News and other national and local outlets.

Local groups mobilized as well, holding visibility events in Pleasant Plains to demonstrate that McCance’s bigotry had no place in their town.  HRC along with NWA Center for Equality and the Center for Artistic Revolution have a full page ad in today’s Batesville Guard – the local newspaper in Independence County, AR.  We’ll be following up with an ad on Monday offering resources to LGBT and questioning young people who feel alone.

Late last night upon news of McCance’s resignation, HRC President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement: “Clint McCance’s decision to resign from the school board is a step forward for the community he represents.

This is a victory for safe and welcoming schools but also a reminder that we have a long way to go in battling the prejudice and hate that too often isolates LGBT and questioning young people.  Because voters go to the polls on Tuesday, and will in many places select school board members, it’s critical that we take the lessons learned this week and put them into action by selecting fair-minded leaders in our communities.

Clint McCance Apologizes for Anti-Gay Remarks, Resigns from Midland School Board in Arkansas

Midland School Board Member Clint McCance told Anderson Cooper that he is resigning from the school board following a firestorm of outrage over remarks he made on Facebook celebrating the suicides of teens who killed themselves after homophobic bullying.

MccanceEllen DeGeneres also spoke to Anderson about the remarks.

Said DeGeneres: "It would not be acceptable if someone used the N-word. When the civil rights movement happened, it took not just the community of blacks to make a change, but white people needed to step in and say this is unacceptable. We cannot tolerate this and treat any citizen with lesser value. And, I think, as a gay person, I would like to personally ask every heterosexual person out there who is appalled by this to – we need your help now. This is absurd and he should resign.”
