Deaths 01.14.11

Gary L. Allen, who was known as “The Uscan Man” at Kroger on Cedar Springs Road, died on Jan. 9, two days before his 61st birthday. He had worked at Kroger for 35 years and was one of two people who had worked at the store on Cedar Springs since it opened in 1998.

Throughout the years, he participated in many charity events. He won several honors for his volunteerism.

Allen is survived by his beloved dog Bo, who has been given a new home by some of his friends; and by friends Elaine and Mike Casey, John “Spanke” Studer, Mark Sharp and Rod Wait, Shannon Percell and Ronye Mitchell-Percell, Mariann Slocum and Cyndi Richards, and Don Maison.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to AIDS Services Dallas, P.O. Box 4338, Dallas, Texas 75208. A celebration of his life will be held at a private home on Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. Address and additional information is available at Kroger.

Survivor: Nicaragua’s Shannon Elkins Was Just ‘Protecting My Butthole’ From Sash

I’m not a homophobe and I’m not a sexist. … As far as the gay bashing, I didn’t bash any gays. I didn’t say, ‘I hate gays.’ I didn’t say, ‘Gays are stupid.’ I stereotype, my brother. It’s like the show ‘Waterboy,’ people think we [people in Louisiana] ride airboats to work, we have no teeth, and we wrestle alligators for a living. Well people from Louisiana think people from New York are either in the mob or gay. I stereotype like everybody else stereotypes. … I was concerned that he was gay and I was protecting my butthole. … I don’t have to ask Sash if he’s gay. Look at the kid, he’s gay. He kept on and on telling me I was a liar. He should have kept his mouth shut and he wouldn’t have been called out in front of America.

Logo’s ‘Bump!’ features Dallas

Resource Center Dallas reports on Facebook that Logo’s “Bump!” was scheduled to feature Big D on Wednesday night. Logo crews were at RCD’s “the Five Factor” and Gaybingo Dallas last fall. Filmmaker Robert Camina says the episode was also to include Michael DiQuinzio, Rodd Gray, Hungdinger, Wayne Smith as Cher, ilume, Derrick Brown, Station 4, the Round-Up, Sue Ellens, the Tin Room, Hotel Palomar, Woody’s, JR.’s and the Dallas Diablos. Wow!

According to the Logo website, the show was scheduled to air at 6 p.m. local time and again at  10:30 a.m. Thursday. In case you’re not familiar, here’s a description of the show:
